Why Bother — There Are Products Already

There's no shortage of smart home solutions on the market.

Sorry, I don't have an answer for that.
I don't know.

That's the sentence that got me here. Not a missing feature, not a broken automation — just the sheer number of times a genuinely simple question hits a wall, on a device that's supposed to be the smart one in the room. NAJRA won't get everything right either. But the bar I'm building toward is a system that tries harder before it shrugs — one that actually knows your home and the people in it well enough to be useful, not just responsive.

The Vision

A home that just works — without you thinking about it.

Someone walks into a room and simply talks to the house, the way you'd talk to a crewmate. No apps to hunt through, no dashboards to configure — the assistant is just there, quietly useful.

Outside, the kids are playing in the garden. The system doesn't just register "someone's there" — it recognizes who's there, tells family from a stranger, and in the evening starts the irrigation on its own — no reminder needed, no forgotten hose.

And when you're not home, you're still connected: a mobile app for checking in, getting notified, and stepping in from wherever you actually are — not stuck waiting for you to be on the same Wi-Fi.

And underneath all of it: a system built to be genuinely protected — from the outside world, from prying networks, from the everyday reality of internet-connected devices being a target. Local-first isn't just a security choice, it's a privacy one: what happens inside your home stays inside your home, by default, not by settings toggle. Intuitive on the surface. Hardened underneath.

This is a personal experiment, not a product launch.

I'm building this on my own time, for one honest reason: to find out how far things have actually come.
